I got my MCAT score last week and wanted to know what you think my chances are of getting into medical school. I’ll be applying to both MD and DO, though I know my chances of MD are pretty slim given my GPA/MCAT. I’ll probably apply broadly to 20+ DO schools and a few in-state MD schools to give myself the best chance of getting in.
My stats are:
3.54 cGPA, 3.83 non-science GPA, 3.32 sGPA (for MD schools), 3.29 sGPA (for DO schools), and a 501 MCAT (127/123/126/125).
-I was a Biology Major and Spanish Minor -California resident
-23 y/o white male -Trilingual -Shadowed 4 doctors (3 MD, 1 DO)
-Will have 1 LOR from MD and 1 LOR from DO
-Worked 8 months as an EMT (~400 hours)
-Worked as hospice care volunteer and emergency room volunteer (~100 hours)
-Played soccer in college -Primary author on a medical review article
-Studied abroad for a semester in college
-I expect to have strong LORs and plan to submit my apps within a few days of the cycle opening
Any specific schools I should/shouldn’t apply to?? Should I consider retaking the MCAT? Should I maybe do a post-bacc or SMP? My priority is to get into medical school, whether that be MD or DO. I prefer to apply this cycle, if possible. Thanks for all the help.
