Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is a 4-year MD-granting program and the nation’s oldest medical school. It was founded in 1765 and has a rich history of firsts, including being home to the first teaching hospital. The Perelman School of Medicine offers a multitude of research opportunities for students. Students have over 150 electives to choose from at UPenn and close to a year and a half to explore them. They have a state-of-the-art clinical simulation center for students to learn from. The Longitudinal Experience to Appreciate the Patient’s Perspective program pairs first-year medical students with a chronically ill patient for 18 months. This is an introduction to clinical experience as well as the impact of disease on a patient’s life.
