What is the AAMC VITA™?
Recently, the AAMC announced the creation of a new virtual interview tool, aptly named the AAMC Video Interview Tool for Admissions (AAMC VITA). While it is not part of AMCAS itself, medical schools may elect to use it however they see fit throughout the application process.
Will the AAMC VITA replace the live interview process?
According to the AAMC, AAMC VITA was designed “to supplement alternatives to in-person interviews this year.” Participating medical schools will have the option to use it how and at what stage they see fit, but the AAMC intention that it will offer schools more time to share information about their institution and the surrounding area.
How do I register for the AAMC VITA?
If selected to interview by a participating medical school, students will receive an invitation from HireVue to register and complete the AAMC VITA interview. It is worth noting that once a student has completed the interview once, their recording will be made available to all additional participating schools that request it from you.
How much does AAMC VITA cost?
There are no fees for the AAMC VITA interview for the 2021 application season.
How is the AAMC VITA interview scored?
Video recordings of your responses are provided to medical school admissions staff, where they may be evaluated and assessed according to their own criteria. The AAMC does not score or evaluate responses.
How should I prepare for the AAMC VITA interview?
Students should read The AAMC Video Interview Tool for Admissions: Applicant preparation Guide to learn more about the interview process and may complete a practice interview to familiarize themselves with the interview format.
Can I retake the AAMC VITA interview?
No. Once a student has completed the interview, their recording may be made available to additional medical schools that request it.
