Mission

The School of Medicine’s pledge is to educate physicians who are compassionate and considerate, and whose numbers meet the health care needs of the state, including those of the underserved. These professionals are mindful of the health problems and disparities faced by the people of Mississippi. They understand that medical education is a lifelong commitment.

As part of the state’s only academic health science campus, the school plays an important role in deepening the body of knowledge in medicine and science for the state, nation and world, and in making health care more available and valuable for patients of various backgrounds.
