About David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

Overview

The University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that was approved shortly after WW2 in 1945 and welcomed its first class in 1951. The David Geffen School of Medicine has a partnership with Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science to help meet the needs of the underserved. DGSOM was ranked in the Top 10 (according to U.S. News and World Report) in training African-American students. UCLA gives students the opportunity to participate in giving back to the LA community and to participate in research with renowned faculty, all while living in LA.

“To improve health and healthcare, UCLA will:

Create world leaders in health and science
Discover the basis for health and cures for disease
Optimize health through community partnerships
Heal humankind one patient at a time”

The School of Medicine will be recognized by its faculty, students, graduates and patients and by faculty members in other schools of medicine and research universities as one of the nation’s premier institutions for research, training and patient care. Excellence in each of its primary missions—education, clinical care, and basic, transnational and clinical research—is essential to this recognition.
