Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University is a 4-year MD-granting program that defines itself as a community-based medical school. The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine trains students to provide patient-centered care, learn the social determinants of health, and be socially accountable physicians. The College of Medicine has a partnership that allows students to do service-learning by interacting with different households and communities in the area to help overcome access barriers. The service-learning course also gives students the chance to interact with other students in the nursing, social work, physician assistant, law, and education fields.
