Dartmouth College Geisel School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program and the fourth oldest medical school in the United States. Geisel provides students the opportunity to receive their medical education at a school that is the home of many firsts—the first successful tying of a carotid artery, first clinical x-ray, the identification of immune molecule CD154, and more. Dartmouth hopes to graduate a complete physician and does so through their new curriculum beginning in August of 2019. Students have longitudinal courses that teach their medical education and clinical skills along with problems in healthcare such as healthcare disparities and the opioid crisis. Eighty-one percent of first- and second-year students participate in community service, including at a free primary-care clinic.
