About Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is a 4-year MD-granting program and the nation’s oldest medical school. It was founded in 1765 and has a rich history of firsts, including being home to the first teaching hospital. The Perelman School of Medicine offers a multitude of research opportunities for students. Students have over 150 electives to choose from at UPenn and close to a year and a half to explore them. They have a state-of-the-art clinical simulation center for students to learn from. The Longitudinal Experience to Appreciate the Patient’s Perspective program pairs first-year medical students with a chronically ill patient for 18 months. This is an introduction to clinical experience as well as the impact of disease on a patient’s life.

“Our mission is to advance knowledge and improve health through
research, patient care, and the education of trainees in an inclusive
culture that embraces diversity, fosters innovation, stimulates
critical thinking, supports lifelong learning, and sustains our legacy
of excellence.”

“To empower the talent within our integrated Academic Medical
Center to find new cures, disseminate knowledge, and improve
health for all people.”
