Overview
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is a 4-year DO-granting program that matriculated its first class in 1899. It is one of the oldest osteopathic medical schools in the U.S. PCOM offers students the opportunity to earn dual degrees in areas such as mental health counseling, forensic medicine, organizational development and leadership, public health, and others. PCOM uses team-oriented learning, and students learn both basic and clinical sciences. Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine students have a deep commitment to their community, with over 50 percent of the clubs and organizations on campus impacting the lives of people in the community. PCOM also offers four different health centers in different settings that students can participate in.
Mission
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) is dedicated to the education of students in medicine, health and behavioral sciences. The College fosters the growth of the osteopathic profession by training physicians through programs of study guided by osteopathic medical tradition, concept and practice. PCOM is committed to the advancement of knowledge and intellectual growth through teaching and research, and to the well-being of the community through leadership and service.
Vision
The School of Medicine will be recognized by its faculty, students, graduates and patients and by faculty members in other schools of medicine and research universities as one of the nation’s premier institutions for research, training and patient care. Excellence in each of its primary missions—education, clinical care, and basic, transnational and clinical research—is essential to this recognition.
