The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class of 32 students in 1977. The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine takes a unique approach to their curriculum by having the pre-clerkship phase only last 1.5 years. This allows for some clinical training prior to taking USMLE Step 1. Students can complete all four years at Bryan-College Station, they can do 1.5 years at Bryan-College Station and then 2.5 years in Houston, or they can do 1 year in Bryan-College Station followed by 3 in either Dallas or Temple. The College of Medicine incoming class had 10 percent of students from groups underrepresented in medicine, with 51 percent being bilingual or multilingual.
