About Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine Review
Overview
The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class of 32 students in 1977. The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine takes a unique approach to their curriculum by having the pre-clerkship phase only last 1.5 years. This allows for some clinical training prior to taking USMLE Step 1. Students can complete all four years at Bryan-College Station, they can do 1.5 years at Bryan-College Station and then 2.5 years in Houston, or they can do 1 year in Bryan-College Station followed by 3 in either Dallas or Temple. The College of Medicine incoming class had 10 percent of students from groups underrepresented in medicine, with 51 percent being bilingual or multilingual. More stats on the class makeup at Texas A&M—34 percent were reapplicants, and 60 percent had 1 plus years since undergrad graduation.
