The University of Texas Long School of Medicine at San Antonio is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1959. The Long School of Medicine educates and trains the largest number of physicians in Southwest Texas, and many stay in the area to practice. The Long School of Medicine is guided by altruism, knowledge, and skills. The University of Texas Long School of Medicine at San Antonio has a Residency Round-Up for third-year students where they have the opportunity to meet alumni in multiple specialties to help them choose a specialty. Students can take part in many different clubs ranging from interest groups to student government and community outreach.

The mission of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine is to provide responsive and comprehensive education, research and service of the highest quality in order to meet the health-related needs of the citizens of Texas. In all aspects of fulfilling this mission, the Long School of Medicine is committed to demonstrating particular sensitivity to and focus on the South Texas region while fostering the broadest diversity and inclusion that ensures successful achievement of the institutional priorities to:
