West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine Review

About West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine

Overview

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is a 4-year DO-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1974. The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is described as having a welcoming, family-like atmosphere where students can succeed and be supported. Students are dedicated to their community, with over 18,000 hours of community service being completed by WVSOM students in one year. Different learning modes are offered, and students receive clinical exposure within their first year. WVSOM has 25 global health sites to choose from if one is interested in global health. They also have a Humans of WVSOM page to share the many stories of students on campus.

The mission of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) is to educate students from diverse backgrounds as lifelong learners in osteopathic medicine and complementary health related programs; to support and develop graduate medical education training; to advance scientific knowledge through academic, clinical and basic science research; and to promote patient-centered, evidence based medicine. WVSOM is dedicated to serve, first and foremost, the state of West Virginia and the health care needs of its residents, emphasizing primary care in rural areas.
