University of Toledo College of Medicine Review

The University of Toledo College of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1969. The University of Toledo recently switched to a new curriculum of systems-based learning. This curriculum incorporates team-based learning, E-learning, simulation, and other approaches. Students begin clinical experience within their first year of medical school through the ICE Program. Students have multiple opportunities to be involved, whether that’s through one of the many clubs or Community Care Clinics. During fourth year, the school offers students the opportunity to take electives, if they wish to do so, in Ethiopia, Jordan, China, India, Zambia, or the Philippines. All students are required to take clerkships in a rural setting, as well. Students appreciate the rural rotation because it allows for one-on-one time with a preceptor and it gives them experience in an underserved community.
