About Western Michigan University Ho mer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine

Overview

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its inaugural class in 2014. WMed has offered some innovative new ideas for students. To start with, students write their own oath as a group, collectively defining themselves as physicians. In the first few weeks of school, students participate in clinical experiences and Medical First Responder training. The curriculum is decompressed, which means there is no long summer break. Instead, students get weeks off throughout the school year. Students also take Step 1 in Year 3, due to Step 1 containing clinical content. WMed is focused on creating a collaborative, welcoming environment for students.

To educate and inspire lifelong learners to be exceptional clinicians, leaders, educators, advocates, and researchers of tomorrow.

To be distinguised as a leader among medical schools through community collaboration in medical education, patient care, research, and service.
