The University of New Mexico School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its inaugural class in 1964. The University of New Mexico gives students the opportunity to receive their medical education in an environment with a low student-to-faculty ratio, early clinical exposure, and multiple learning styles intertwined in their curriculum. In addition, students at UNM are required to do research prior to graduation. Over 97 percent of admitted students are New Mexico residents, and more than 40 percent of the state’s physicians have received their education or training at UNM.
