The University of Colorado School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that started in 1883 with two students and two professors. The School of Medicine has been on the forefront of diversity from the beginning. From its inception in the 1880s, the school required women and men be accepted on an equal basis, as well as accepting minorities. CU was also the site of the first-ever liver transplant, a human chromosome classification system, and the founding of immunology. It is also where doctors revolutionized open-heart surgery. The University of Colorado School of Medicine facilitates student explorations of global health, research, rural medicine, the urban underserved, and the LEADS program (Leadership, Education, and Advocacy Development Scholarship).

Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine is a 4-year DO-granting program that chose Parker, Colorado, due to the area being close to many medically underserved areas. The school has an emphasis on primary care and wants to make sure their physicians can meet the needs of a diverse patient base. RVUCOM is a military-friendly school and has one of the highest percentages of students on military scholarships. The College of Osteopathic Medicine provides a number of ways students can explore their interests in global medicine, military medicine, rural and wilderness medicine, research, and urban underserved medicine.
