Saint Louis University School of Medicine

The Saint Louis University School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that houses one of the nine NIH-funded vaccine research institutions. The School of Medicine also has one of the largest hepatitis-C practices. Their goal is to develop physicians who appreciate humanistic medicine. They have developed a curriculum that includes learning communities based on your areas of interest, resilience and mindfulness education, and a plethora of extracurricular events.

University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine

The University of Missouri School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program. All students complete their first two years in Columbia and then do their clinical years either at the Columbia Campus or at the Springfield Campus. Mizzou has an emphasis on patient-centered care, and they uphold this value with a program called Legacy Teachers. This program invites patients who have had an impact on the students to an annual luncheon, where students may share artwork or writings. In addition, the school offers a community health clinic, rural track program, simulation center, and summer fellowships for students.

University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine

The University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program. They only admit about 20 students per year because many of their students are enrolled in a 6-year BS/MD program. UKMC has an innovative docent system that allows for students to learn in small groups with a mentor and eventually do docent rotations. Many students regard the docent teams as their favorite part of UKMC. Students are also provided early clinical interaction. Students help with outpatient care half a day every week for three and a half years.

Washington University School of Medicine

The Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is a 4-year MD-granting program and one of the few schools in the country to have a stabilized tuition, meaning it will not change during your four years of medical school. Over 90 percent of students participate in research during their time at Wash U. The School of Medicine is always willing to address concerns, and students evaluate material and professors at the end of each course. The clinical rotation sites for Wash U include Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri Baptist, Veterans Administration, Progress West, and other primary care practices.

A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine is a 4-year DO-granting program and the first osteopathic institution in the world. ATSU-KCOM emphasizes “Whole Person Healthcare” and increasing access to underserved communities. The College of Osteopathic Medicine has had over 23,000 DO graduates. Around 64 percent of graduates choose to go into primary care. ATSU-KCOM has 9 core rotation sites in Arizona, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Utah.

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine is a 4-year DO-granting program with campuses in Kansas City and Joplin. KCU was one of the first five colleges of osteopathic medicine and is the second largest provider of physicians in the state of Missouri and Kansas. KCU offers a welcoming community, a chance to gain early clinical experience, and specialized military tracks for students interested in becoming military physicians.
