University of Oklahoma College of Medicine

The University of Oklahoma School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that started as a two-year medical school in 1900 and became a 4-year medical school in 1910. The University of Oklahoma School of Medicine is dedicated to the residents of Oklahoma—at least 75 percent of the class is made up of Oklahoma residents. OU School of Medicine wants to make sure students stay connected to their love of medicine, and they use art and literature to facilitate this. Students publish a journal called Blood and Thunder: Musings on the Art of Medicine. Every year there is an Anatomical Donor Luncheon, which pairs students with a family member of their cadaver lab donor to learn about the donor. At the end of the second year, all students are assigned a faculty mentor in their desired specialty to make sure students have support and advice.

The University of Oklahoma School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1974. The University of Oklahoma School of Medicine is dedicated to the residents of Oklahoma—at least 75 percent of the class must be state residents. The School of Community Medicine is dedicated to improving the health of the entire community and those in northeast Oklahoma, with a specific focus on the underserved in rural and urban areas. This school is integrated with the OU College of Medicine, and if a student wants to apply to the School of Community Medicine, there is a designation when applying to OU College of Medicine.

Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine is a 4-year DO-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1974. Oklahoma State College of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to small class sizes so students have the opportunity for one-on-one learning. OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine is focused on educating primary care physicians, and over 67 percent of graduates practice in primary care. More than 50 percent of graduates stay in Oklahoma to practice, and about 25 percent practice in smaller communities. Students at OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine are involved in their communities, working at health fairs and schools. They also have a mobile telemedicine clinic and brand new simulation center that are integrated into their curriculum.
