The Carle Illinois College of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its inaugural class in 2018. Carle Illinois College of Medicine is the first medical school that exists at the intersection of engineering and medicine. The goal is to create both physician-innovators and physician-leaders who become creative problem-solvers and lifelong learners. The College of Medicine also utilizes IDEA (Innovation, Design, Engineering, and Analysis) projects to improve healthcare. During the fourth year, one IDEA project will be selected as a capstone project.

The Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that is rooted in Jesuit traditions and a deep tradition of valuing service. The Stritch School of Medicine offers students medical instruction and training in leadership skills, inter-professional interactions, justice in health care, disaster preparedness, nutrition, end-of-life issues, patient safety, global health, and healthcare delivery. Loyola hopes that student have a life beyond the classroom and wants students to experience personal growth. They offer multiple school organizations, community service, and other activities.

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that offers students a more individualized curriculum while being able to experience a large city. Within the first two years of medical school, students will learn the organ systems, begin their Area of Scholarly Concentration project, and have a choice between two learning options for their longitudinal clinical experiences. Northwestern believes that to be able to care for patients, you have to start with caring for yourself. They want students to find balance physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. The Feinberg School of Medicine encourages students to participate in community organizations or school organizations.

The school has a deep value to serving others, and community service is deeply involved in the culture at Rush. The Rush Community Service Initiatives Program serves more than 10,000 people annually and is a major reason students choose Rush Medical College. Students describe the atmosphere as welcoming, collaborative, and diverse in both students and patients.

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1973. SIU School of Medicine does not accept out-of- state students for the MD program. They have a strong emphasis on serving the people of central and southern Illinois and look to find students who identify with that mission. SIUMED has a student to faculty ratio of 1:1, and students often work in small groups of 6-7 students. Students begin their clinical experience in the first year, and a smaller class size allows for increased opportunities in research and clinical exposure.

University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine

The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that welcomed its first class in 1927. Pritzker School of Medicine’s students chose Pritzker for the small class size, which gives them an opportunity to have a close network of classmates and faculty. The location of the school and structure of the curriculum gives students the opportunity to translate disease from bench to bedside. The School of Medicine also requires 100 elective credit hours during the first year Spring quarter, which gives you an opportunity to explore your interests. The Pritzker community is made up of individuals with a variety of backgrounds and social contributions.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that has three different campuses for students: Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford. Each student will have the opportunity to rank their campus choice. Each campus offers a specific curriculum and different environments for students to learn in. In addition to the traditional MD program, they offer specialized programs in rural medical education, global medical education, urban medicine, innovation in medicine, clinician executive medicine, and innovation in rural global medicine.

Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine

The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University is a 4-year DO-granting program that since 1900 has been educating osteopathic physicians. The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine provides approximately 13 percent of osteopathic physicians practicing in the U.S. today. The College of Osteopathic Medicine boasts high residency match rates and high pass rates for boards. The first two years are didactic instruction followed by clinical rotations with a number of partners in the area. The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine also offers a community program called Mini Medical School where anyone can come and learn about personal and public healthcare issues.
