The Saint Louis University School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program that houses one of the nine NIH-funded vaccine research institutions. All students complete their first two years in Columbia and then do their clinical years either at the Columbia Campus or at the Springfield Campus. Mizzou has an emphasis on patient-centered care, and they uphold this value with a program called Legacy Teachers. This program invites patients who have had an impact on the students to an annual luncheon, where students may share artwork or writings. The University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine is a 4-year MD-granting program. They only admit about 20 students per year because many of their students are enrolled in a 6-year BS/MD program. UKMC has an innovative docent system that allows for students to learn in small groups with a mentor and eventually do docent rotations. Many students regard the docent teams as their favorite part of UKMC. Students are also provided early clinical interaction. Students help with outpatient care half a day every week for three and a half years.
